Observations on the land revenue, [ca. 1787].

Manuscript, in a single hand, with autograph corrections, of a collection of essays concerning the history, present state, and future projects of the Land Revenue of Great Britain. The author describes the ways in which monarchs have historically been able to appropriate land, such as "the prerogative by which the King is entitled to Royal Mines of Gold or Silver;" he also discusses the seizure of Church lands and procedures for drawing up rents. The volume concludes with an appendix, which includes a "Copy of the Indenture of Annexation under the Great Seal of England, dated 7 May 7 Jac. 1," "Sign Manual of King Charles the 2d. for correcting certain abuses relating to the Land Revenue," and various proposals for improving the land and the revenue system.
